Artist Statement
Art of Heather McDonough
Originally from Michigan, Heather found her passion for art through her surroundings and was inspired by the seasons of color that surrounded her. After moving to the Pacific Northwest, she regained a new sense of direction for her work. Her use of strong, contrasting colors and bold lines serves as a representation of her feelings. Heather uses acrylic paint to cast her impressions into her paintings. Inspiration comes in the adventures around us; Heather uses that energy as a muse for her work. The influences of nature and human interaction fuel the energy that lead to deep creativity. This sparks ideas and imagination that Heather attempts to capture in time capsule of a painting. The PNW lends unbelievable creative energy that flows with each brush stroke.
Art is a reflection of self. Style, subject choice, choice of color and brush strokes represent so much of the artist. Look deeper; for each painting will tell a story. The way the paint flows, the placement of the subject matter, the chosen hues. These are clues painting to display a truth of the artist. Let your mind wonder and imagine as you gaze into the painting to wonder what’s more. Art is a celebration and reflection of life. Walking into an art museum or strolling the streets of an art fair paint stories into the universe. Heather attempts to tell her stories and captivate the viewer to believe there is more than the paint that rests on the surface. She is fascinated with work by Warhol and Lichtenstein for their defining use of color and expression. Heather’s work is a constellation of her feelings, inspirations and experiences that allow her to be liberated from her emotions and express her statement.
